Scholarship offered for advertising students
      Rhode Island residents who are full-time college students, at the sophomore level or above, and who are pursuing a career in advertising are invited to apply for the J.D. Edsal Scholarship/Women's Advertising Club Scholarship at the Rhode Island Foundation.

      Lush Group Inc. of Jamestown announced this week that it has been named a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, which recognizes the company's expertise and impact in the technology marketplace. The Lush Group has been developing custom software solutions in Jamestown for over 20 years.

Apply for Holy Ghost Society scholarship
      The Holy Ghost Society will award two scholarships to graduating high school students who live in Jamestown, to be applied to tuition, books or related course fees. Students must be of Portuguese heritage. Scholarship applications may be obtained at the Jamestown Philomenian Library, 26 North Main Rd.

Learn about life cycles of animals at library
      During school vacation week, the Audubon Society of Rhode Island will present a program for children in kindergarten through grade 2. "Life Cycles 1" will take place on Wednesday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to noon. Children will learn about and investigate the life cycles of insects, amphibians and egg bearing animals through the use of bio-facts and station activities.

Recreation Center has extended vacation hours
      The Recreation Center will be open for extended hours during spring vacation week, April 14 through 18. The Open Rec. program will run Monday through Friday from noon to 2 p.m. for students in grades 3 through 6, and the Teen Center will be open Monday through Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. and Friday 2 to 9 p.m. for students in grade 7 and up.

      The Friends of the Jamestown Library and the Jamestown Historical Society present Jamestown resident, David Kaiser, a history professor at the Naval War College, on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m.

Play softball this spring
      The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for the 2008 Girls Softball League. The league is open to girls in grades 1 to 8 and costs $35 for the first child and $25 for each additional child, with a maximum fee of $60 per family.

Book groups announce spring, summer reading
      The next session of the Evening Book Group will be on Monday, April 14, at 7 p.m. to discuss "The Widow's War" by Sally Gunning. The evening group meets on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. The Afternoon Book Discussion Group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. Both groups are facilitated by library director, Judy Bell.
