Still pretty raw and windy out there, but there are definite signs of spring, that cannot be overlooked - daffodils, crocuses, green sprouts here and there, and visible buds on trees. Can't get better than that for the annual promise of springtime!

There are new things happening in the senior world as well. We have a bus trip coming up in June, with registration taking place now. We're going to the Hu Ki Lau on June 8, a place where for a little while you'll feel like you're in Hawaii- with a Hawaiian show and music and a great meal to enjoy, either chow mein or prime rib. There are very few seats left on the bus, but if you contact Josephine at 423-3719, you can join us for a fun day out. Total cost, including bus ride, lunch, and show is $59 payable by May 27. There are only five seats left, so give Josephine a call soon, and come on along!

On Wednesday, April 22, and Friday, April 24, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Jamestown Senior Center, Vern Stromberg, an AARP volunteer, will conduct the AARP Driver Safety Class- an education class designed for folks 50 years of age and older, and a chance to sharpen their knowledge of the rules of the road. You may be eligible for savings on automobile insurance costs after completing the program. Fee for both sessions is only $10, which is payable by check at the first session. Most insurance companies in Rhode Island allow discounts of 5 to 15 percent to those who present certificates received on completion of the two sessions. Please call Charlotte at 423-1026 to register.

Now that the winter blues and unpredictable weather are behind us, why not come down to the Senior Center, to meet and greet your friends and neighbors, along with a nice hot and tasty meal. Call and make a reservation by the Thursday of the week prior to the reservation date. You'll find it very tasty and well worth the trip, and maybe you'll make it a pleasant habit. Included in the programs at the Senior Center are bowling on Fridays, and Art Group on Thursdays, and there are a couple of card playing groups who would welcome new players. Bingo is held every Tuesday and Wednesday, sponsored by Jamestown Senior Citizens Association, and held in the very pleasant surroundings of the Pemberton Apartments Community Room. Perhaps you might have some suggestions for other things to try out. Come on down and take part.
