TOWN HALL RECORDS
      Building permits Susan B. Rasmussen received a permit April 8 to construct a dormer and add a half bath to an existing home at 153 Beach Ave., work estimated to cost $41,000. Erin and Nancy Esher received a permit April 8 to build a 14-by 20-foot deck off the rear of a house at 252 Seaside Drive, work estimated to cost $2,500.

      9:30 a.m., April 8, Truck 1 was dispatched to Ferry Wharf for a service call. 10:04 a.m., April 9, Car 1 and Engine 3 responded to a smoke in area call on East Shore Road. 7:30 p.m., April 10, All units responded to a training drill at the fire station on Narragansett Avenue.

      Foster A son, William Everett Foster, was born March 24, 2008 at Newport Hospital to Emily and Matthew Foster of Jamestown. Grandparents are Bill and Sheila Foster of Cary, N.C. and Greg and Suni Lacklen of Greensboro, N.C.

POLICE LOG
      Driving an unsafe vehicle charged Monica Stevenson, 19, of Newport was charged April 5 with driving an unsafe vehicle after callers reported a car driving erratically on eastbound Route 138 and police stopped and impounded it. The vehicle was later inspected by a Department of Motor Vehicles investigator and deemed unsafe for operation on the road, police said.
