Town Council to hold workshop on recycling
The Town Council will hold a public work session on Tuesday, May 13, at 3 p.m. at Town Hall to discuss options to increase recycling and reduce the volume of solid waste transported to the Central Landfill.
Currently, the Town recycles 21 percent of residential trash through curbside pickup and at the Transfer Station.
The Council is exploring methods to expand the amount of recycled trash in order to meet the state mandate of 28.25 percent annual recycling rate beginning July 1.
By 2012, the State threshold for recycling will reach 35 percent.
The work session will include staff from the RI Resource Recovery Corporation.
