New summer programs offered by recreation department
The Jamestown Recreation Department will offer a wide array of youth and adult programs, which will run throughout the summer.
Summer Playground is back with a full schedule of themed weeks and activities sure to keep the kids active this summer. Playground starts June 23 and will run weekly through Aug. 15. A halfday option is available from 9 a.m. to noon and a full-day option runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Creative Art Camp
A Creative Art Camp, will run from June 23 to 26 for children ages 11 to 13. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
The camp provides middle school students the opportunity to create art with artists in their professional environment. There will be improvisation with a famous actor, print making with well-known local artist, a trip to Island Moving Company Studios to meet the dancers and watch the rehearsal, a trip to Newport art museum with Lizzie Congdon who will teach sketching on the veranda of the museum, and modern dance with Mary Beth Murphy. The cost is $150 per person.
"Dance Your Animal" Camp
"Dance Your Animal," with Janet Novack will run two sessions. The first is July 8 to 31 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and the second is from Aug. 5 to 28 at the same time.
The program is for children ages 7 to 12.
Dance Your Animal includes folk tales, expressive movement, yoga, and guided relaxation. Dance Your Animal has been developed and taught to build confi- dence, enhance creativity, reduce stress, and increase coordination. The cost is $96 for one session or $180 for both.
