Chase tennis tourney this Saturday

The third Annual Roger Chase Memorial Tennis Tournament, presented by Jamestown Fitness, will be held this Sunday, June 8, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Conanicut Yacht Club and the Jamestown town courts.

Matches will be for men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Participants may register for the tournament at Jamestown Fitness Center, 36 Southwest Ave. or by calling 560-0300.

Entry blanks are available at www.jamestownri.net.

The cost is $25 per player, which includes balls, prizes and lunch.

Proceeds will benefit the Jamestown Medical Fund and the recreation department.

A silent auction will include an opportunity to play with legends Todd Martin, Tom Gullikson, Rod Laver, Stan Smith and others in a pro-am on the grass at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Only fifty raffle tickets at $10 each will be sold.

Some of the auction items include dinner for two at Carnegie Abbey, a Wilson tennis racket, a massage from Victoria Hellewell, a clinic from University of Rhode Island tennis coach, Sandy Wood, a spa treatment from Island Acupuncture, an International Tennis Hall of Fame grass-court session and a Conanicut Marine gift bag.

The auction opens Sunday, June 8, at 9 a.m. at the Conanicut Yacht Club tennis courts and will close at 1 p.m.

For additional information, call Steve Heath at 439-0160. The tournament is held each year in memory of Roger Chase who was a friend, teacher, mentor, tennis professional, and much more to all who knew him. Roger died in 2004 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
