Composer to debut new work at Courthouse

Coventry musician Steve Johnson will launch his first major work as a composer, in a free concert at the Courthouse Center for the Arts, 3481 Kingstown Rd., West Kingston, on Wednesday, June 18, at 7 p.m.

Scored for vibraphone, cello and four voices, "Circle of Words," will be include the vocals of Corey Johnson, Katie Kleyla, Brad Kleyla and Ethan Thurber, Chelsea Bernstein on cello, and Miranda Nero on vibes.

In addition to Johnson's work, the concert program will include selections from Claude Bolling's Suite for Violin and Jazz Piano Trio with Jorge Gardos on violin, Joe Parillo on piano, Steve Johnson on bass, and Ethan Thurber on drums; The concert is made possible by a grant from the URI Office of Research and Development.
