Watson Farm hosts landscape painting workshops
      The Watson Farm will offer a series of Watercolor Workshops on Saturdays, July 12 and Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain dates are set for Sundays, July 13 and Sept. 14. Artists have enjoyed the scenic landscapes of the historic Watson Farm for over 100 years. Located in Jamestown, the farm offers panoramic vistas of the pastoral agricultural seaside landscape.

Kavi Carbone puts on buggy show at the library
      Christopher "Kavi" Carbone will perform his show "Spiders, Mosquitoes and Bugs- Oh My," on Saturday, June 28, at the Jamestown library. This show, for kids ages 4 to 10, features songs like "The Funky Funky Spider," and more hoppin' songs & stories from the fascinating insect world.

Audition for 'Pollyanna'
      Young actors, ages 8 and up, are needed for Newport Children's Theatre production of "Pollyanna," which will be performed Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 21 to 24 at the Norman Bird Sanctuary. Auditions are Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26 at 6 p.m. at Newport Congregational Church at the corner of Spring and Pelham Streets.

Help the women's center with yard sale donations
      The Women's Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties is now accepting donations to be sold at their Summer Yard Sale Spectacular. Hundreds of thousands of unused items ranging from desk lamps and household goods to tables and forgotten antiques are lying idle in closets, basements, and garages nationwide.

Garden tour planned in Wickford
      Historic Wickford will present "Wickford in Bloom," a waterfront garden tour of splendid private and public gardens on Saturday, July 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a self-guided walking tour "that brings one back to earlier days as one explores the collection of gardens in the village," according to Chairwoman Barbara Burgess.

Brass Attack first NK summer concert
      The North Kingstown Arts Council begins its 2008 summer concert season with a concert by Brass Attack on Tuesday, June 24. The show begins at 7 p.m. at the town dock behind 55 Brown St. in Wickford. The Summer Concerts at the Town Dock are sponsored by Centreville Bank. All concerts are free and donations are gladly accepted.

      The Department of Children, Youth and Families is hosting a Foster Care and Adoption Information Night on Wednesday, June 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the DCYF Office, 650 Ten Rod Rd., North Kingstown. DCYF staff, foster, and adoptive parents will be available to explain the program and answer questions.

Junior sailor wins national championship
      Nick Kaschak-Pyle won his division in the national high school fleet racing championship regatta (Mallory Cup) at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. on May 11. He is a member of the Point Loma (San Diego) High School Sailing Team.

      The Jamestown Philomenian Library invites young readers to join their 2008 Summer Reading Program, "Catch the Reading Bug," a statewide celebration of reading and insects, including many free programs and performances. The Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through age 12.

Teens tak talents on stage
      The Jamestown library will host a Teen Improv Workshop with Keith Munslow on Wednesday, June 25, at 11 a.m. Teens can take their talents to the stage. This workshop is all about making it up on the spot. Using a mix of theatrical warm ups and comedy improv games like the kind one sees on "Who's Line Is It Anyway?" teens will dive into the fast-paced world of improvisation.

A summer full of stories at library
      The Jamestown library will hold several sections of story times this summer. On Wednesday mornings, Mother Goose Time for Babies will be from 10:30 to 11 a.m. for infants up to 24 months. From 11:15 to noon, story time for 2 to 5 year olds will also be on Wednesdays.

Mackerel Cove beach officially open
      Mackerel Cove waters have been reopened to swimmers. The beach officially opens with lifeguards this Saturday, June 21. Resident beach stickers are on sale Monday through Friday at the Recreation Center, 41 Conanicus Ave., between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon. Stickers are also available at Mackerel Cove and Fort Getty.

Oliver Allaux takes top art award
      Oliver Allaux of Jamestown, a senior at North Kingstown High School, has received the 2008 Art Scholarship from the Conanicut Island Art Association. This $3,000 scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who plan to pursue art in college.

Teen Center summer hours begin Monday
      The Jamestown Teen Center will begin its summer hours on Monday, June 23, at the Recreation Center, 41 Conanicus Ave. Summer hours will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. until Aug. 29. All teens entering grades 7 through 12 are welcome to register with the program.

      The Men's Chorus of Jamestown will start its thirteenth summer season of singing tonight, Thursday, June 19, at the Senior Center. The chorus is open to men and boys of all ages regardless of singing experience. There are no auditions and only a small fee for music.

      Central Baptist Church's annual June Festival, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., this Saturday, June 21, promises to offer something for everyone. People interested in an evening of fine dining, a sunset cruise, a Red Sox baseball game, a day of kayaking, a round of golf or shopping in Wickford should visit the festival's silent auction.
