Book sale starts July 10 at Jamestown Philomenian Library
      The annual book sale at the Jamestown Library will open this year on Thursday, July 10, at 7 p.m. with a paid preview. The admission will be free for paid-up members of the Friends of the Library or $10 for non-members. The sale will continue until Saturday, July 25, at 2 p.m.

Balloonfest celebrates 30 years with the Flying Wallendas
      From July 18 to 20, the Wakefield Ro tary wi ll host the South County 30th Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival at the URI Athletic Fields on Route 138 in Kingston. The Flying Wallendas, the famous high-wire family, are this year's new attraction and will perform up to three times each day during the festival, demonstrating their amazing balance and athleticism.

One day photographic workshop planned
      Eileen McCarney Muldoon and Cindy Horovitz Wilson will be conducting a one-day photographic workshop July 17 at the beautiful Gilbert Stuart Museum in North Kingstown. Wilson will focus on sharing her knowledge of the technical aspects of photography and the need to have a basic understanding of the medium in order to create beautiful photographs.

Bank of America open house Monday
      The Jamestown branch of Bank of America will celebrate 50 years of banking on Conanicut Island on Monday, June 30. According to branch manager Tara Shanahan, there has been a bank in that location on Narragansett Avenue for 50 years although the bank has changed ownership and names several times.

Museum features schoolhouse exhibit
      The Jamestown Museum will ring in a new summer season this Sunday, June 29, at 1 p.m. The opening will highlight the Jamestown Historical Society's (JHS) summer exhibit, School Days! How Jamestown Taught its Children. Refreshments will be served by members of Jamestown's Girl Scout Troop #612.

Shakespeare playing on Newport stage
      The Firehouse Theater in Newport presents "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged," through June 29. The theatre is located at 4 Equality Park Place in Newport. Performances are Wednesday to Sunday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. Call 849-3473 or visit www.firehousetheater. org.

'Guys' wanted for singing group
      It is not too late to join the Men's Chorus of Jamestown. The chorus began its summer season of singing last week, but rehearsals continue each week through August. The chorus is open to men and boys of all ages regardless of singing experience.

Teens to learn about summer jobs
      The Jamestown Teen Center is forming a partnership with East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) to assist teens in finding employment. Representatives from EBCAP will hold an informational meeting at the Teen Center on Monday, June 30, at 3 p.m.

Schools reduce hours for summer
      Now that summer is here, the Jamestown School offices wi ll be open Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. These hours will be in effect from July 7 to Aug. 22.

Library to present all age musical program
      The Jamestown Philomenian Library is proud to present "The Band Called Music" on Monday, June 30, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the library meeting hall. This free educational musical program is for an audience of all ages. "The Band Called Music" is an instrumental trio influenced by th e entire world of music.
