Tennis event raises funds for local charities

The 3rd Annual Roger Chase Memorial Tennis Tournament was held June 8 under pristine skies at both the Conanicut Yacht Club and the Jamestown town courts. Some 82 players competed in the tournament, making it the most successful since its inception in 2006. Winners of the tournament divisions are as follows:

Women's Doubles: Susan Wynn and Paula Spencer Women's Consolation: Mary Hutchinson and Rosemary Fagan Women's Reprieve: Lydia Potter and Erika Aldazabal Last Chance: Mary Kreuger and Kelly DeSocio

Men's Doubles: Alexander Cavanagh and Timothy Sternberg Men's Consolation: Bill Woodhull and Craig Richardson Men's Reprieve: Dick Boenning and Tom Hirsch

Mixed Doubles: Steve Horan and Parvi Horan Mixed Consolation: Mary Heath and Scott Wynn

The tournament raised upwards of $3, 400, which will be split between the Jamestown Medical Fund and the Jamestown Recreation Department. The tournament is held each year in memory of Roger Chase who was a friend, teacher, mentor, tennis professional, and much more to all who knew him. Roger died in 2004 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
