Newport library hosts children's programs

Groups available for grief support
      Several free bereavement groups are meeting across the state to help those mourning the loss of a loved one. Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, the largest and most comprehensive hospice in the state offers the groups at several locations.

      Roger Williams Park Zoo is offering up some good old fashioned family fun on July 11 and 12 with "Fun on the Farm," an event featuring a wide array of farm and country-inspired activities, entertainment and demonstrations.

Computer assistance for community members
      The Jamestown Library has an on-going program of computer assistance to members of the Jamestown community. The program takes place on Monday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon, and has been running since May. Robert Edgar, a retired information technology specialist, is available at the library to provide help with information about computers.

Adult beginner ballet offered
      The Jamestown Recreation Department's Modern Dance with Mary Beth Murphy is a class for anyone who has ever wanted to dance. This ballet-based class is designed for the beginner, but is also appropriate for anyone who may have danced as a child and has always dreamt of trying it again.

      Summer music in Jamestown kicks off its 2008 season with one of New England's best known Celtic bands bringing its unique style to the East Ferry Memorial Square on Sunday evening, July 6 at 6:30 p.m.

Fitness classes for teens offered
      The Jamestown Recreation Department will offer two new fitness classes for teens starting Monday, July 7, at the Recreation Center, 41 Conanicus Ave. All teens entering grades 7 through 12 are invited to participate. Both classes will be taught by Jamestown resident and personal trainer Jason Vieira.

Library book sale begins July 10
      The annual book sale at the Jamestown library will open this year on Thursday, July 10, at 7 p.m. with a paid preview. The admission will be free for paidup members of the Friends of the Library or $10 for non-members. The sale will continue until Saturday, July 25, at 2, p.m. during regular library hours.

Organic farm stand opens Saturday
      The Stearns Farms Organic Produce farm stand will begin its fifth season at East Ferry this Saturday, July 5. Islanders will be able to purchase a variety of island-grown, certified organic produce and cut flowers until the end of October. The farm stand, located across from the Bay View Condominiums, will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
