Newport library hosts children's programs

The Newport Public Library is offering a summer reading program for children from pre-school to age 12 from July 8 to Aug. 13.

To participate, visit the Children's Desk at the library, sign-up online at www.newportlibraryri.org, or call 847-8720, ext. 204.

Children are asked to read, or have read to them, a minimum of six books for the summer, to record their efforts in a reading log and to visit the library at least one time over the summer. Children who complete the program will receive a personalized certificate with their name on it, a toy prize, a free book and will be eligible to win grand prizes.

The Summer Reading Program is supported by the Newport Public Library, RI Office of Library and Information Services, the Institute of Museum and Library Services and McDonald's Restaurants of Rhode Island.
