Rita C. Vickers, 92

Rita C. "Sis" (Sullivan) Vickers, 92, of Middletown, died June 28, 2008. She was the wife of the late James J. Vickers, Jr.

Born in Newport, RI, on April 15, 1916, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Annie (McMahon) Sullivan.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, a member of the Golden Girls Bowling League, an avid card player at the Middletown Senior Center, and a frequent visitor to Newport Grand.

She is survived by her daughter Maureen Edenbach of Portsmouth, her daughter Eileen and son-in-law Dan Shaw of Vienna, Va., her son Michael and daughter-in-law Rebecca Vickers of Portsmouth, her son Robert and daughter-in-law Jo-Ann Vickers of Jamestown, and son James and daughter-in-law Janet Vickers of Middletown; her grandchildren Scott Vickers, of Brookline, Mass., Kerri Vickers of New York, NY, Robert Edenbach of Tokyo, Japan, Christopher Edenbach of Newport, Kelly Shaw and Ashley Shaw of Vienna, Va., Constance Beck of Braintree, Mass., Nicole Vickers of Portsmouth, and Mei-Ella Vickers of Jamestown; two great-grandchildren, five nieces and five nephews.

She was the sister of the late Anna F. Sullivan, John J. "Mex" Sullivan, James A. "Mex" Sullivan, and Charles X. Sullivan.

A Mass of Christian burial was held July 1 at St. Augustin Church in Newport. The burial was at St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
