Teen group to host yard sale
      The Jamestown Teen Center's "Invisible Children" Team will host a yard sale on Saturday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Recreation Center. To donate items for the event, bring them to the Recreation Center on Friday, July 11, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

New fitness for adults offered
      The Jamestown Recreation Department will offer Functional Training adult exercise classes beginning the week of July 14. There are two times being offered, Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Functional Training class is a circuit style of training with a unique approach. Registration forms are available at the Recreation Center, 41 Conanicus Ave.

Teens to read Sherman Alexie book
      The Jamestown library's teen book group will meet on Friday, July 11, at 3:30 p.m. in the Sydney L. Wright Museum Room to discuss the book, "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian," by award-winning Spokane Indian author Sherman Alexie.

Put on pajamas for a good story
      The Jamestown library will host a Pajama Story Hour on Tuesday, July 22, from 7 to 7:30 p.m. The theme will be 'Christmas in July' and the guest storyteller will be recently-retired first grade teacher Debbie Murphy, who will read "Shall I Knit You a Hat?" a Christmas tale by author Kate Klise.

Start practicing for island talent show
      The Jamestown Community Chorus will hold its 19th Annual Talent Show on Wednesday, Aug.13, at 7 p.m. at the Jamestown Recreation Center. The production is titled "Salute to Vaudeville." Open auditions will be held at the Recreation Center on Sunday, Aug. 10 and Monday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. A piano accompanist will be available.

Computer assistance for community members
      The Jamestown library has an on-going program of computer assistance to members of the Jamestown community. The program takes place on Monday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon, and has been running since May. Robert Edgar, a retired information technology specialist, is available at the library to provide help with information about computers.

Teens hold open house July 15
      The Jamestown Teen Center invites the public to an Open House on Tuesday, July 15, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The center will be open to all ages for the evening. Come meet the new staff, register teens for the programs, and enjoy refreshments and beverages in the newly-renovated space.

Black and White play the blues this Sunday
      Summer Music in Jamestown continues for the 2008 season at East Ferry Memorial Square this coming Sunday, July 13, featuring the three piece blues-rock band, Black and White, who will take the stage at 6:30 p.m..

Garden club to visit Sutton gardens
      Members of the Quononoquott Garden Club will be visiting the country garden of Lynda Sutton as part of their meeting on Monday, July 14. President Jill Meyer will conduct a business meeting at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Parish Hall and after that members will carpool to the garden.

Beach 'boot camp' starts next week
      The Jamestown Recreation Department will offer new sessions of adult exercise classes that will begin the week of July 14 and run for eight weeks at Mackerel Cove Beach, weather permitting. There are two sessions being offered, Monday and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m. and Tuesdays and Fridays from 7 to 8 a.m. Boot Camp is a results-driven strength and conditioning program.
