Fitness classes for teens offered
      The Jamestown Recreation Department will offer another session of new fitness classes for teens starting Monday, Aug. 4, at the Recreation Center, 41 Conanicus Ave. All teens entering grades 7 through 12 are invited to participate. Both classes will be taught by Jamestown resident and personal trainer Jason Vieira.

Get ready for fall soccer season with British Challenger camp
      In addition to their Aug. 18 to 22 soccer camp, British Challenger will hold a competitive camp at the Lawn Avenue fields in Jamestown from Aug. 11 to 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. The camp is designed for players entering grades 7 to 11 who would like to take their playing to the next level. A goal keepers camp will also be held at the same time.

CIAA invites artists to exhibit in open show
      The Conanicut Island Art Association will hold their first open show, "Art around the Bay," starting Thursday, Aug. 7 at the Jamestown Town Hall. This is the first CIAA show where exhibiting artists do not have to be a member of the association.

Books now a 'buck a bag' at library
      During the final days of the summer book sale at the Jamestown library, books will be offered at the bargain price of $1 per bag. From noon on Thursday, July 24 through 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, the deal is just $1 for all the books that can be put into a bag. This excludes any specially priced books or sets.

Teen center hosts talk on teen drinking
      The Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Jamestown Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force, is hosting a public discussion session regarding issues of teen drinking on Wednesday, July 30, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Skateboarders vie for prizes Aug. 8
      The Jamestown Teen Center is having a skateboard competition on Friday, Aug. 8, at the Jamestown Skate Park from noon to 6 p.m. The competition will be divided into three age groups: under 8, under 14, and an all age's group. There will also be a "best trick" category open to all who participate. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Fishing derby this Saturday
      The annual Kids Fishing Derby, sponsored by the Jamestown Striper Club, will take place this Saturday, July 26, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the North Pond Reservoir. Bait will be provided and lunch will be offered to contest entrants. The derby is open to all kids ages 8 to 14.

Craft show coming Aug. 16
      Jamestown artisans and crafts people are invited to submit their work to the Conanicut Island Art Association's upcoming Annual Craft show. This one-day show will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Jamestown Community Center. All island residents are invited to submit their work.
