The next book to be read by the book groups at the Jamestown library will be "Run" by Ann Patchett, on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m. There will be no evening discussion in August.

Booklist gave "Run" a starred review. "The question of what makes a family is central to this luminous novel, Patchett's first since her award-winning Bel Canto, published in 2001."

The Jamestown library runs two book discussions. The Evening Group meets on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. The Afternoon Group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. Both groups are facilitated by library director Judy Bell. For this month only, there will only be one meeting. The library is closed on Monday, Aug. 11 for Victory Day.

At the Aug. 12 meeting, the group will finalize our choices for the next six books to be read by both groups. Among the titles recommended by our participants and under consideration are:

"On Chesil Beach," by Ian McEwan; "Out Stealing Horses," by Per Petterson; "The Cave," by Jose Saramago; "Peace Like A River," by Leif Enger; "Demon Of The Waters : The True Story Of The Mutiny On The Whaleship Globe," by Gregory Gibson; "The Great Man : A Novel," by Kate Christensen and "Bridge Of Sighs," by Richard Russo.

For more information, call the library at 423-7280. The book may be obtained through the Jamestown library by placing holds on one of the many copies in the state available through the Ocean State Libraries. Registration is not required.
