Sign up now for fall soccer
Registration for the Fall 2008 recreation soccer league is now underway. The process for registering a child is done online only, by accessing the Jamestown Soccer Association (JSA) registration forms from the Jamestown Soccer website at www.jamestown-soccer.com. The website will direct participants to a link for Youth Leagues USA, which has the Jamestown soccer registration form. All soccer associations in Rhode Island are required to register players.
Once again, everyone is asked to register as soon as possible to help avoid any difficulties that may occur in a last minute rush to sign up players. The registration deadline is Thursday, Aug.14. Players signing up after this deadline will be required to pay a $20 late fee per player.
On-line registration cannot be made using a Macintosh computer. For those unable to access the Internet, JSA recommends using the public computers at the Jamestown library.
The registration fee for the first child is $40 and the second child is $35. The cost for three or more children is $100. Scholarships are available upon request.
Following on-line registration, the required payment, along with the printed application and photocopy of the child's birth certificate, should be sent to the registrar. Players who played in last year's Jamestown fall soccer league do not need to send in a birth certificate.
The fall recreation league is comprised of five divisions; they are Under 6, (birth date between Aug. 1, 2002 and July 31, 2004), Under 8 (birth date between Aug. 1, 2000 and July 31, 2002), Under
10 (birth date between Aug. 1, 1998 and July 31, 2000), Under 12 (birth date between Aug. 1, 1996 and July 31, 1998) and Under 15 (birth date between Aug. 1, 1993 and July 31, 1996).
Jamestown follows the divisions recommended under the Soccer Rhode Island guidelines. If the Under 15 division does not have a sufficient number of sign-ups, those players will be allowed to play in the Under 12 division.
Jamestown Soccer will continue this year with the move-up policy established last season. Any child in third grade not eligible by age to play in the U-10 league may move up to the U-10 league after parental request. Any child in fifth grade not eligible by age to play in the U-12 league may move up to the U-12 league after parental request. Any child in seventh grade not eligible by age to play in the U-15 league may move up to the U-15 league after parental request.
If this policy applies to your child, please e-mail a request to Clayton Carlisle at claycarlisle@ cox.net by Aug. 10. Jamestown Soccer will move the player up after the player is registered if a request is made by this date.
The fall season begins on Sept. 6 and will run though Oct. 25. Players will be assigned to a co-ed team in their appropriate age group. Adult volunteers are needed for coaching, concessions and field maintenance. As always, there will be a need for coaches in all age groups.
