Richard A. Wing, 64

Richard A. "Dick" Wing, 64, a resident of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and formerly of Jamestown, died Aug. 14, 2008 at home. He was the beloved husband of Gail R. (O'Blenis) Wing for 32 years.

Born in Providence, he was a son of Dorothy (Mills) Wing of Port St. Lucie and the late Howard R. Wing. He graduated from

Cranston High School in 1962 and attended Rhode Island College, the University of Rhode Island and Temple University, receiving numerous degrees. He was a professor emeritus of the University of Rhode Island's Department of Fisheries where he taught for 34 years. He served as a lifetime member of the Jamestown Fire Department and on various Jamestown committees. He was the co-owner of Jamestown Properties LLC and Eastern Sea Products Inc. doing business as the F/ V Lady Grace, which stood in for the F/V Andrea Gail in the motion picture "The Perfect Storm."

Besides his wife and mother he leaves his daughter, Laurel A. Wing of Jamestown; a brother, Kenneth Wing and sister-in-law Anncatherine Wing of Umea, Sweden; his mother-in-law, Zalia O'Blenis of Warren; a brother-inlaw, Weldon "J.R." O'Blenis of Warren; two sisters-in-law, Patricia L. LaChance of Seekonk and Bonnie O. Dion of Warren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Karissa L. Wing.

A memorial celebration of his life for family and friends will be held Aug. 30 at noon at the Portuguese American Citizens Club, 138 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Jamestown Fire Department Scholarship Fund, 50 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, RI 02835 will be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are by Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home.
