Cyclists and motorists need to obey rules
I was disappointed to see that I was very much misquoted and misrepresented in the recent Jamestown Press article regarding cyclists and motorists.
When speaking to the reporter, I hoped to convey the message that both cyclists and motorists need to be cognizant of the rules of the road and more patient with one another.
Many dangerous situations can be avoided if motorists wait to pass cyclists until there is enough room to do so safely, giving the cyclists a wide berth. Similarly, cyclists should slow down in busy sections of the road, particularly near intersections and narrow roads.
It is everybody's responsibility to help prevent accidents, maintain the flow of traffic, and create a safe community for all modes of travel.
