North Kingstown High School's Drama Club, NorTHeatre, will be performing the musical comedy, "42nd Street." The performances will take place in the North Kingstown High School Auditorium at 150 Fairway Drive, on Sept. 12 and 13 at 7 p.m., and Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.
The 42nd Street book is by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, lyrics by Al Dubin, and music by Harry Warren, is a musical in two acts with a 15-minute intermission.
42nd Street is a story of hard work, being in the right place at the right time, talent, and love. It is a celebration of Broadway and the people involved in shows. It focuses on an aspiring chorus girl, Peggy Sawyer, and takes us along her journey. Musical hits include " You're Getting to be a Habit with Me," "I Know Now," "We're in the Money," "Lullaby of Broadway," and "42nd Street."
Under the direction of Kate Arthur and Michelle Rosen, 30 students make up the tap dancing ensemble, performing much of the original Broadway choreography. Sophomore Lindsey Sampson plays the lead role of Peggy Sawyer, the aspiring chorus girl with big Broadway dreams while Junior Patrick Keefe and Senior Briana Leo take on the roles of the famous Broadway director and Leading Lady respectively.
Tickets are $8 in advance in and $10 at the door. Advance tickets can be reserved by calling the NorTHeatre Box Office at 932- 4441. Tickets are also available at the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce.
