Mrs. Frances Cochran, 73, of Davidson, N.C. died on Sept. 9, 2008 after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Cochran was born on March 11, 1935 in Richmond, Va., the daughter of the late John Jay Hicks Kerr and Lillian Mc- Cabe Kerr. Mrs. Cochran attended St. Timothy's School in Richmond, Va. and Smith College in Northampton, Mass. She was known for her quick wit and generous heart. She loved to travel, and her active life included tennis, skiing, and yoga. Mrs. Cochran was also an avid reader, poet and accomplished artist, specializing in children's portraiture. Above all else, she was tirelessly devoted to her family and friends.
Mrs. Cochran is survived by her husband William Henry Cochran of Davidson, N.C., her children, Kimberly Howland Meyer and husband David of Culver City, Calif., William C. Howland Jr. and wife Amy of Harrisburg, N.C., Andrew U. Howland and wife Lori of Charlotte, N.C. and Scott N. Birckhead and wife Debbie of Huntersville, N.C. She is also survived by her stepsons Peter D. Birckhead of Houston, George D. Cochran and wife Elizabeth of East Greenwich; stepdaughters, Cathy B. Pacak of Gettysburg, Penn. and Amy G. Cochran and husband Matthew Snyder of Stonington, Conn.; niece, Frances E. Klimscha of Vienna, Austria; grandchildren, Teddy, Sara, Anneliese, Will, Augie, Sidonie, Lizzie, AJ, Charlie H., Ava, Jack, Emma, Douglas, George, and Charlie S. Mrs. Cochran was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Kerr Eichner.
A memorial service was held on Sept. 14 at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Davidson, N.C.
