Fund-raising event for Shaffer scheduled

On Aug. 15, longtime Jamestown resident Charlie Shaffer died after having been diagnosed with cancer just three weeks earlier.

Charlie was a self-employed master carpenter specializing in fine finish work. He was also a driver, for special events and on Saturdays, for the Conanicut Marine Services shuttle bus.

His friends are holding a fundraising dinner this Saturday, Sept. 20, to help his wife, Joanie, with medical and on-going costs.

A spaghetti dinner, with seatings from 5 to 8 p.m., will be held at the Portuguese American Citizen's Club, 138 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown.

There will be pasta with traditional meat sauce and a vegetarian meatless version as well. The price is $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Advance tickets are available at Baker's Pharmacy, Conanicut Marine Services Ship Store and Bank of America.

There will be many great raffle prizes and a separate silent auction. All prizes will be awarded after 8 p.m. Winners not in attendance will be notified by phone.

Raffle and silent auction items are needed. Call Donna Wood at 423-0568 or 423-7164 to donate raffle/auction items or for additional information. Donations may be sent to the Charlie Shaffer Fund, c/o 51 Southwest Avenue, Jamestown, RI 02835.
