Local author pens book on hurricane
Jamestown resident Carol Newman Cronin will hold a book launch and signing for her book, "Oliver's Surprise" at Conanicut Marine Store this Friday, Sept. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m.
"Oliver's Surprise" is about a boy in modern Jamestown who hits his head during a fall and wakes up in the past, several days before the Great Hurricane of 1938. He sees his community through new eyes, and takes readers on a journey through Jamestown history in the days proceeding the one of the most damaging hurricanes Conanicut Island has ever seen.
The book is described as young adult fiction, but readers of all ages will enjoy a walk through Jamestown in September, 1938.
