Bucky Caswell, a Jamestown fireman for nearly six decades
      Valmont "Bucky" Caswell, 80, started hanging around the Jamestown Fire Department when he was 14-years old. He trained to be a fireman in 1948 and officially joined the department in 1949 when he turned 21. He has been a Jamestown fireman ever since.

North Kingstown girls' volleyball beats South
      The North Kingstown High School girls' volleyball team improved their record to 8-1 after win at home against South Kingstown on Monday night. The Skippers took all three games, 25-22, 25-12, 25-16. North's one loss was to East Providence in their first match of the season.

Chamber Chatter
      The Jamestown Chamber of Commerce is proud to report that our annual fundraiser, "Night At …", which this year was aptly titled, "Gettywood," was once again a huge success. The event was very well attended with everyone enjoying great food and dancing to top-notch entertainment.

East Ferry Market and Deli has served patrons for 15 years
      Stacy Feight and her father Bob Umbenhauer have been serving up award-winning dishes at the East Ferry Market and Deli for close to 15 years. Feight gave some history of the deli. She said that her father, Bob Umbenhauer and his wife, Diane, originally opened the deli after moving from Pennsylvania.

      I just returned from a fabulous vacation in Italy, but it didn't start out that way. We should have known things would go downhill fast when we smelled burning wires shortly after leaving the car rental garage at Rome's Fiumicino airport. At first we thought it was the car in front, then just the random bad smells of a large metropolis.

      Lunch at school is not what it used to be, and that's a great thing. The Jamestown Schools have the proud distinction of being state leaders with their model lunch program, now in the second year.

Island Lookout
      Nancy Logan rides her 23-speed hybrid bicycle every day, year-round, weather permitting. As of last Friday, the bike's odometer stood at 21,317 miles, many of them logged as Logan pedaled on daily errands from her home on Seaside Drive to the market, the library, the post office and other stops in Jamestown village.
