David J. Brazil, 62
David J. Brazil, 62, of Intrepid Lane, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at Rhode Island Hospital after a twoyear battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Linda A. (Baker) Brazil for 35 years.
Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late John E. and Florence (Andrade) Brazil.
A 12 year veteran of the US Air Force, he served during Vietnam.
He graduated from De La Salle Academy in 1964 and received a bachelor's degree in physics from Duquesne University in 1968. He received his master's in aerospace physics from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1970.
He was a systems analyst for Lifespan and continued working despite his illness. Prior to Lifespan, he worked at CVS, Fleet and Logicon- Syscon.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Newport. He was a member of the National Physics Society, Sigma Pi Sigma and while at Duquesne was a member of Alpha Gamma Omega.
He loved to travel and just returned from a trip to the Mediterranean. An avid sports fan, he loved the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Besides his wife he leaves two children, Brian C. and Rebecca L. Brazil both of Jamestown; two sisters, Frances Brazil-Kelleher of Jamestown and Jean Della Vecchia of West Greenwich; a niece, Emily J. Baker of Beltsville, Md. and a nephew Jared D. Brazil of Cranston.
The funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 6, at 8:45 a.m. from the Fagan- Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Rd., North Kingstown, with a service at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 525 Broadway, Newport. Burial with military honors will be in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
Visiting hours are Sunday, Oct. 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the RI Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence, RI 02907 or the Comprehensive Cancer Center of RI Hospital, 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02903 will be appreciated.
