Charles E. Bell, 80

Charles E. Bell, 80, of Gondola Avenue, a retired machinist, died Sept. 31, 2008 in Kent Hospital, Warwick. He was the devoted husband of Lois I. (Johnson) Bell for 59 years.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late George H. and Mary E. (Tedeschi) Bell.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II aboard the USS Ozbourn DD 846.

He had been employed with Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Company for 32 years, until his retirement 18 years ago. He also worked at Wickford Lumber for 10 years.

He was a member of the Jamestown Shores Association and was an avid golfer.

Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Charles E. Bell Jr. of Woonsocket; two daughters, Terrie - Lynn Bell of Cranston, and Diane M. Burd of Bellingham, Mass.; two brothers, George H. Bell of East Providence and Joseph R. Bell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Steven T. and Jennifer K. Burd.

His funeral was held Sept. 27 from The Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, Warwick.

Burial with military honors was in All Saints Cemetery, Warwick. aGifts in his memory to a charity of one's choice are appreciated.
