Many good pie bakers in Jamestown contest
      Sixteen entries vied for top awards in the Oct. 25 Community Pie Cook-off sponsored by Central Baptist Church. Winners in the best overall pie category were Janice Spotts, who took first place with her Pennsylvania Dutch Apple Pie. Emma Willis came in second place.

Teens to visit colleges on Election Day
      The Jamestown Teen Center will be touring Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Between campus visits, the group will have lunch on Thayer Street. On that day, North Kingstown High School students will be out of school for a Professional Development Day. Transportation will be leaving the Teen Center at 8 a.m. and will return at 4 p.m.

Teens to see Celtics play in Banknorth Garden
      The Jamestown Teen Center is going to the TD Banknorth Garden for a Celtic's basketball game against the Portland Trailblazers on Friday, Dec. 5. Transportation will be leaving the Teen Center at 3:30 p.m. and will return at 11p.m. Space is limited, so sign up as soon as possible.

Boy scouts to collect for food bank Saturday
      Island Boy Scouts will be coming around this Saturday, Nov. 1 to collect bags of food for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Empty bags were dropped off last Saturday and should be filled with healthy non-perishable items and left near the mailbox or at the door of the house no later than 9 a.m.

Treats for youngsters at the Secret Garden
      Costumed youngsters are invited to visit the Secret Garden while trick or treating in Jamestown on Friday evening. Owner David Urban said he will maintain the tradition, started by the shop's previous owners, of giving out free glow sticks for all on Halloween.

Costume contest and teen dance Friday
      The Jamestown Teen Center and the Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force are having a "Monster Ball" at the Jamestown Fire Station on Friday, Oct. 31, from 6 to10 p.m. There will be a costume contest with cash prizes and games from 6 to 8 p.m., and families and children of all ages are invited to attend. After 8 p.m. will be a teensonly dance party.

Get a flu shot today at Baker's Pharmacy
      Winter is on the way — and so is the flu season. Baker's Pharmacy on Narragansett Avenue is hosting a flu clinic today, Oct. 30, from 9 to 11 a.m. The clinic is open to everyone age 18 and older. Present an insurance card in order to receive a shot.
