Architectural firm wins regional award for town hall
The new Jamestown Town Hall, designed by Burgin Lambert Architects, which previously won an honor award from the Rhode Island chapter of the American Institute of Architects and a Gold design award from Rhode Island Monthly magazine, was one of 14 selected for design excellence from 186 entries in the 2008 New England region American Institute of Architects Design Awards program in Portland Maine on Oct. 4.
The Town Hall award was the only award given to a Rhode Island project and Burgin Lambert Architects was the only Rhode Island firm to receive an award from the regional organization.
"The jury applauded the vision of the architect to pare the historic building back to the original and move it to make room for the addition. There is a restraint in the addition that the jury felt not many architects could manage." The firm also recently received a national Builders Choice Design award from Builder Magazine for the renovation of the Watch Hill Yacht Club. A Jamestown house, also done by the firm, was featured in the latest Fine Homebuilding houses of the year issue.
