Teens to see Celtics play in Boston
      The Jamestown Teen Center is going to the TD Banknorth Garden for a Celtic's basketball game against the Portland Trailblazers on Friday, Dec. 5. Transportation will be leaving the Teen Center at 3:30 p.m. and will return at 11p.m. Space is limited, so sign up as soon as possible.

New men's soccer league welcomes players
      The Jamestown Recreation Department will offer an Over 40 Men's Soccer League every Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Lawn Avenue gym. The league will begin Sunday, Nov. 9 and run through the winter. The cost is $30 per person.

North JV field hockey wraps season
      The North Kingstown High School JV field hockey team wrapped up their season on Oct.19 at a Division I tournament held at East Greenwich High School. North played a total of seven 15-minute games against Cumberland, South Kingstown, Bay View, East Greenwich and Lincoln High Schools.

Lawn soccer team
     The Lawn Avenue School soccer team officially ended its season with a tie in the Student- Faculty game. The game was tied 2-2 at the end of regulation play and both teams made four of five penalty kicks, ending the game 6-6.

North Kingstown and Jamestown youth play in flag football tourney
      Players and coaches from the North Kingstown Recreation NFL Flag Football League recently participated in the New England Patriots NFL FLAG tournament. The tournament, part of the NFL FLAG National Tournament of Champions, drew teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire.

North field hockey wins another state crown
      It took two overtimes for the North Kingstown High School field hockey team to win and retain the Division I state championship on Sunday. North defeated Bay View, 1-0, in the title game of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League field hockey tournament held at Cranston Stadium.

New technology keeps kids interested at Lawn school
      It's always a challenge for a teacher to keep middle school students interested in class work, but Nick Alfred has a leg up on the competition. Alfred, a math teacher at the Lawn Avenue School, has been using a Smartboard in class for the last year. The Smartboard is an interactive white board produced by Smart Technologies.

Board denies absentee applicant a variance
      The Jamestown Zoning Board of Review denied absentee applicant David Dalrymple his request to build a single-family dwelling on his undeveloped lot at Pole 249, East Shore Road at its Oct. 28 meeting. Jamestown Attorney Peter Brockmann represented Dalrymple and his application for dimensional relief in his absence.

      Town Administrator Bruce Keiser said at the Oct. 27 Town Council meeting that one of the adopted Town Council goals is to conduct a review of the delivery of emergency medical services to the community.

Fill an empty bowl to support hunger initiative
      Great soup, homemade desserts and live jazz will all be cooked up on Friday, Nov. 14, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. in the Melrose School Multipurpose Room for the 2008 Empty Bowls Fund-raiser. Soups, bread, homemade desserts and drinks are included in the admission price.
