North JV field hockey wraps season

The North Kingstown High School JV field hockey team wrapped up their season on Oct.19 at a Division I tournament held at East Greenwich High School. North played a total of seven 15-minute games against Cumberland, South Kingstown, Bay View, East Greenwich and Lincoln High Schools.

The team played well, but ultimately came in fifth place. They won one game, lost one game and tied five games.

"As a team of mostly freshman we held our own against teams with mostly juniors, including East Greenwich," Islander Emily Levy said. "The girls are very proud of their accomplishments this season under JV coach Janelle Avila, who was a former student at NKHS."

"It was fun, we played the best we ever had," Sam Leonard of Jamestown said.

Other Jamestown residents on the team include Allie Richard, Ellen Bednarczyk and Danielle Perez.

Perez is in her third season with the team and she also played on the varsity team this season.

The girls are the next generation of NKHS field hockey players, who are the two-year reigning state champions.
