Veterans' service honored in ceremony Tuesday
The island's veterans' groups will commemorate Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at East Ferry Veterans Memorial Square.
The keynote speaker will be former Gov. Bruce Sundlun, who will discuss the history of the day that was initially established as Armistice Day, which remembered the signing of the treaty that ended World War I.
The veterans will give a rifle salute, play Taps and cast a memorial wreath into the bay to honor Jamestown veterans.
Volunteers are needed to help the veterans put up more than 100 American flags, each donated by the family of a Jamestown veteran. Flags go up at 7 a.m. and come down at 3 p.m.
