A busy holiday season ahead in Jamestown
There's plenty of excitement in store for the upcoming holidays, according to the folks at the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce. Here's a look at what's ahead:
Saturday, Dec. 6
Many Jamestown merchants will host holiday open houses on Saturday. It is a great time to shop for bargains at island stores. Top off your island outing with lunch or dinner at one of the village eateries.
The Conanicut Island Art Association will host its annual Crafts Fair at the Melrose Avenue School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You'll find a wide assortment of unique handmade gifts.
Also on Saturday, the three churches in the village will host their annual holiday events:
• St. Matthew's annual Christmas Bazaar will be held in the Parish Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Central Baptist Church's annual Christmas Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• The annual St. Mark Christmas Festival will be held on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Church Hall.
Much to everyone's delight Santa Claus will make his annual arrival by boat at 1 p.m. at East Ferry at Conanicut Marine's ferry dock. Kids may greet Santa as he makes his way to the Conanicut Marine Ship's Store where he will meet individually with youngsters.
On Saturday evening, everyone will gather at East Ferry for the annual Christmas Tree lighting. There will be holiday music and caroling, hot chocolate and a bonfire.
Sunday, Dec. 7
Santa's back in town for the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce annual Polar Express. Take a magical trolley ride through Jamestown to see the holiday decorations and listen to a reading from "The Polar Express." Tickets are $5 per person and go on sale on Friday, Nov. 28, at Baker's Pharmacy.

Youngsters won't want to miss the annual Teddy Bear Tea. There will be two seatings — 1 and 3 p.m. — at Trattoria Simpatico.
