Stephen E. Gilman, 91

Stephen E. Gilman, 91, a resident of Jamestown for 52 years, died Nov. 22 in Sarasota, Fla., where he had lived for the past four years. He was the husband of the late Mary E. Gilman.

He was a graduate of Rogers High School. He had a two-year tour of duty in the U. S. Maritime Service. He was a civilian employee

of the Navy Department in Newport for 35 years. He also worked as a security guard at the Firestone estate in Newport for 17 years. He was a trumpet player who played in several bands in Rhode Island and Florida, including the Newport Concert Band, the Jamestown Community Band, the Manatee Community Band, and the American Winds Touring Concert Band. He was a member of the Windjammers, an international group of musicians involved in the playing and preservation of circus music. He was a lifetime member of the Musician's Union Local 529. He was a communicant of St. Matthew's Church.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Nelson Paradis of Sarasota, Fla., his son, Wayne, of Edgewater, Fla.; a granddaughter, Amy Messinger, and his greatgrandchildren, Mariah and Tyler Messinger, of Jamestown.

A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew's Church at a later date. Donations may be made in Stephen's memory to the Jamestown Community Band, c/o Jeff Hunter, Treasurer, 198 East Shore Rd., Jamestown, RI 02835.
