Do not raise taxes!

As I write a substantial check to the Town of Jamestown for quarterly taxes due next week, I have some advice for our town councilors. Do not raise our 2009 taxes. In fact, you should lower them. When I see my life savings disappearing down the drain along with the value of my house, I think it is time to call a halt to ever-increasing town budgets.

With the nation and the state in financial free fall, Jamestown cannot expect a bail out. The administration and the council should make cuts, even in areas previously considered sacred cows. Perhaps take a lesson from President-elect Obama who has promised a federal budget review, page by page, line by line.
