Obstructing justice charged

Keith Gillis, 47, of 12 Friendship St., was charged Dec. 9 with obstructing an officer in the execution of duty and driving without a license, police said.

According to police, Gillis gave the officer a wrong name during a traffic stop on Narragansett Avenue.

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Jan. 2 in Newport District Court, police said.

Drunk driving charged

Matthew Wainwright, 38, of Wakefield, was charged Dec. 14 with drunk driving and refusal to take a Breathalyzer test after he was stopped on North Main Road, police said.

A pretrial hearing was scheduled for Dec. 19 at Newport District Court, police said.

Bench warrant violation

Theresa Neary, 48, of Exeter, was charged Dec. 13 with a bench warrant violation from Washington County District Court, police said.

According to police, Neary was found in a vehicle police were investigating for being in Fort Wetherill after hours.

A pre-trial hearing will be scheduled in Newport District Court, police said.

Underage possession of

alcohol charged

Nathan Giblin, 18, and a juvenile, 17, both of West Warwick, were charged Dec. 12 with underage possession of alcohol, police said. According to police, the offi- cer observed alcohol in plain view during a traffic stop on Route 138 eastbound.

A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for Giblin on Dec. 19 and the juvenile case was referred to Family Court, police said.
