Thanks to those who helped with cleanup

I am writing to thank the hardy people who braved the wind and cold to help clean up Mackerel Cove beach last Saturday morning as part of my senior project. We filled nine large trash bags with litter, and collected a substantial pile of damaged lobster pots and other large Styrofoam pieces. Beach debris is not only unsightly, but also presents a variety of ingestion and entanglement hazards to coastal wildlife.

Again, thanks to all who participated. Hopefully with the continued education and similar clean-up efforts we can make Jamestown a safer place for all its inhabitants to call home.
