Ferry service will resume in May
Jamestown-Newport Ferry service between Jamestown Village, Rose Island, Fort Adams, and Newport Harbor will begin on Memorial Day weekend. Veterans ride free May 24, 25 and 26.
The 45-passenger ferry, Jamestown, starts running weekends May 24 through June 15, after which daily service continues through Labor Day. After Labor Day ferry service returns to weekends through Sept. 14. Express service to the Newport International Boat Show will be available Sept. 11 to 14.
Twelve departures run daily from Conanicut Marina, One Ferry Wharf, Jamestown, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and connecting with the RIPTA Newport-Providence Ferry from Perrotti Park and the Block Island Ferry from Fort Adams State Park at 9:15 a.m.
Eleven Newport Harbor departures run daily beginning at 8:50 a.m. from Perrotti Park on America's Cup Avenue to Fort Adams, Rose Island, and Jamestown Village.
Fares for the 2008 season are $9 for a one-way crossing or $16.50 for an all-day (on-off) pass. Inner-harbor fares to and from Fort Adams State Park are $5. Bikes are $2 each. Tickets can be purchased at Conanicut Marina, Newport Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as on the boat.
