Drunk driving charged

Michael W. Burkinshaw, 32, of Newport was charged May 10 with second offense drunk driving and refusal to take a Breathalyzer test after he was stopped for swerving on Route 138 west near Route 1A, police said.

Burkinshaw was held overnight and arraigned the next morning. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for May 21 at Newport District Court, police said.
