Full season of educational lectures at art museum

The Newport Art Museum will host its 82nd annual season of winter lectures in January and February with an entertaining, provocative and informative lineup of speakers and topics. The winter-long theme of the lectures will be exploration.

Talks will take place on Saturdays through Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. in the John Griswold House, 76 Bellevue Ave. Each will be followed by a reception. The cost to attend is $8 for museum members and $12 for non-members.

On Jan. 17, Ellen Messer Ph.D. will talk about "Food and Security: Crisis, Challenges, Choices."

She will discuss the relationship between rising food prices, food shortages and security around the world.

On Jan. 24, Dr. Tim Warren gives "Lessons from Everest's Summit."

"Lessons from Everest" chronicles Dr. Warren's quest to attain the world's highest point and the lessons learned during the struggle. He reached the summit of Mt. Everest on May 24, 2008.
