The Chamber is pleased to report that once again there has been great response to our Winter Breakfast Series. These meetings not only provide business owners with important, timely, and useful information, but they also allow for businessto business networking, sharing ideas, and, of course, socializing.
The second breakfast in our series will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and the topic is "The State of the Rhode Island Economy and the Future of Its Business Climate." Our speaker will be Frank Caprio, general treasurer for the State of Rhode Island. The breakfast will be at the Bay Voyage, 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. The cost for chamber members is $15 and $20 for non-members. Everyone is welcome!
Applications are now being accepted from local organizations to become the recipients of the proceeds from this year's "Night At…" event. Each August the Chamber pairs up with a local organization and together we put on a fabulous night of dining and dancing under the stars, with silent and live auctions as the main fundraisers. Last year the Chamber was able to donate $5,000 to the Jamestown Community Theatre.
If your organization is interested, please submit a short letter setting forth what you do, why you think you should be the recipients, and what goals this donation will help you reach. The group must be willing to work with the Chamber's "Night At" committee in making the evening a reality, from setting up and cleaning up after the event, to getting donations for auction items. Everyone has a great time, and we look forward to another successful event this year. Please submit your letters to the Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 35, Jamestown, RI 02835.
Have you noticed those great new decals appearing on the windows of local Chamber member merchants and service providers? These decals identify those stores and service providers that are members of the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce, and provide a way for the public to show their support of these members. Remember to buy local - Buy Jamestown!
The Chamber's "Buy James town" campaign is ready to be launched. We have a unique and exciting logo designed by Jane Lee of Jane Lee Design, a James town graphic designer, which will become the earmark of our campaign. This logo will be seen on all our promotional efforts to raise awareness of the importance of supporting our local service providers and merchants, and remind people that our entire community is strengthened when you "Buy Jamestown."
The first step in the campaign will be gathering information from both residents and businesses on their spending habits and knowledge of the products and services available in Jamestown. The survey will be available in both paper format and online. Look for details in the next week's edition of the Jamestown Press.
This will be our final reminder about membership renewal. It is very important to renew as soon as possible, as we are updating our website and any businesses that have not renewed will be taken down from our website and removed from our referral lists.
We also welcome new businesses to join. As part of your membership, you will be listed on the Chamber's website. The Chamber receives many inquiries throughout the year from potential customers for recommendations and referrals, and of course only Chamber members can be recommended. If you would like more information, or need an application form, please go to the Chamber website, www.james townRIchamber.com.
