Hear about local Tall Ships efforts tonight

The first Friends of the Jamestown Library Sailing Lecture of the year will focus on Tall Ships Rhode Island. The talk will be held tonight - Thursday, Feb. 26 - at 7:30 p.m. in the library meeting hall.

Perry Lewis, vice chairman of Tall Ships Rhode Island, will talk about Tall Ships Rhode Island and their efforts to complete work on the Oliver Hazard Perry, a tall ship.

Tall Ships Rhode Island, a Newport nonprofit, bought the steel hull in September from two Canadian businessmen with the goal of converting it by 2011 into a towering 130-foot-tall training ship that will serve as a floating sailing school for students and apprentices.

He will share a PowerPoint presentation and discuss the status of the project.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
