Assault with a deadly weapon

Robert Kurucz, 49, of North Kingstown, was charged Feb. 20 with felony assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

According to police, Kurucz allegedly attempted to strike a person with his vehicle on Conanicus Avenue.

A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for March 15 in Newport District Court, police said.

Drunk driving charged

David Bird, 23, of Somerset, Mass., was charged Feb. 22 with first offense drunk driving and refusal to submit to a Breathalyzer test, police said.

According to police, Bird attempted to drive through an EZPass lane at the Newport bridge without a transponder. When approached by a toll plaza employee, he was extremely disoriented and confused, police said.

Bird was held at the police station and a pre-trial hearing was scheduled for March 6 at Newport District Court, police said.

Bench warrant

Mary Bennett, 40, of 52 North Main Rd., was arrested Feb. 20 on a bench warrant from Newport District Court, police said.

Bennett was transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions and a pre-trial hearing was scheduled for Feb. 23 at Newport District Court, police said.

Underage transportation

of alcohol charged

Alexander Cascione, 19, of East Greenwich, was charged Feb. 22 with transportation of alcohol by an underage person, police said.

According to police, Cascione was stopped for speeding on Route 138 eastbound and alcohol was found during a search of the vehicle.

A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for March 6 at Newport District Court, police said.

Underage possession

of alcohol charged

Brenna White, 18, of Providence, was charged Feb. 22 with underage possession of alcohol, police said.

According to police, White was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for speeding on Route 138 and a search of the vehicle revealed alcohol.

A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for March 7 in Newport District Court, police said.
