Learn secrets of the bee hive at library talk
Betty Mencucci, owner of Betty's Bee Farm, will speak about "Secrets of the Hive and the Honey Bee" at the Jamestown library on Saturday, March 21, at 10 a.m.
Learn the life of the worker bee, the queen bee and the drone. Betty uses many props to tell the story with the help of her "bee friends," a collection of plush bees.
Visitors will also learn about bees in pollination, the garden skep, floral sources of nectar, the benefits of honey and other hive products.
Betty will perform the "wagtail dance" to demonstrate how bees communicate.
She will show a sampling of beekeeping equipment and will bring honey, beeswax candles and other hive products for purchase.
Betty's Bee Farm is located on 14 acres of land in Glendale, Rhode Island. Currently the farm owns and manages 20 hives of bees on the property in Glendale and at several other locations in Burrillville and Chepachet.
The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call the library at 423-7280.
