Local architect's house designs win awards

Two houses by Jamestown architect Jim Estes of Estes/Twombly Architects were recently recognized by the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Institute of Architects at their annual design awards ceremony. The first home, pictured above and located in Jamestown, won a merit award. Three hipped roof pavilions define major rooms below. Low flat roofed areas form the entry and create various porches, which take advantage of the views and allow for casual summer indoor/outdoor living. A home in Newport also received a merit award. The firm specializes in single family homes.
