Phone directory helps local projects

2009-03-26 / Letters to the Editor

The Junior Women's Club of Jamestown would like everyone in the town to know we are working with the Jamestown Press to publish the 2009-2010 Jamestown Telephone Directory.

The telephone directory has become a Jamestown tradition and is mailed to every postal patron in Jamestown each year.

All of the proceeds from our directory are used by the Women's Club to fund a number of local projects.

Here's a sampling of our local charitable efforts from the past year:

• Sponsorship of girls' softball and girls' soccer teams.

• Donation to Jamestown Emergency Medical Services.

• Host of the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Egg Toss.

• Donation to the Rocket Hogs for the Fourth of July fireworks.

• Support of youth recreational activities.

• Co-sponsorship of the Village Christmas Tree Lighting, providing hot chocolate and treats for the event.

• Scholarships for graduating Jamestown high school seniors.

• Donation to the fifth grade Rooster Games.

• Sponsor of the Music and Art Award (Marc Frade annual Art Scholarship) and Excellence in Foreign Language Award for graduating eighth graders.

• Sponsor of Adopt-AFamily program at Christmas.

• Sponsor Project Adventure, a trip to Alton Jones for sixth graders.

• Sponsor of the annual Seaside Family Cruise at Ft. Getty.

• Donation to Friends of the Seniors.

• Donations to the Jamestown Teen Center.

• Donation of computer to Jamestown Meal Site.

If you would like to support our fund-raiser by advertising in the Telephone Directory, please contact the Jamestown Press at 423-3200.

Those islanders who would like to change their listings in the telephone directory may complete and mail the form published in the Jamestown Press. Or e-mail Phonebook@JamestownPress. com.
