Wickford celebrates spring this weekend

Historic Wickford Village in North Kingstown will celebrate its 7th annual Daffodil Days event this Saturday and Sunday, April 4 and 5.

This family friendly event, sponsored jointly by the Village Merchants Association and Histwick, is a traditional and fun way to celebrate the beginning of spring. Thousands of daffodils will decorate the streets of the quaint waterfront village. Merchants and residents will both participate in the beautiful display. In addition, special programs will be going on all over town.

Saturday's schedule includes a Spring Fashion Show at noon and a Bluegrass Jam Session from 2 to 5 p.m. Both events are at Updike Park. There will be historic walking tours from 2 to 3 p.m., starting at St. Paul's Parish Hall, and a Pump Organ Concert by Mark Steinbach at 3 p.m. in Old Narragansett Church.

Sunday's events include bagpiper - pipe major Debbie Kane of the R.I. Pipe & Drum Corp from 1 to 3 p.m. Line up at St. Paul's Parish Hall with a pet for the Daffy Dog Parade at noon.

There will be Old Narragansett Church Tours on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a children's art exhibit on display in merchant windows.
