Newport House Tour comes to Jamestown
      Jamestowners looking to take advantage of this weekend's promising weather forecast do not need to look any further than their own backyard. The Neighborhoods of Newport House Tour, sponsored by St. Michael's Country Day School, returns this Sunday following a five-year hiatus and promises to be well worth the wait.

Golf course holds first tourney of season
      The Jamestown Golf Club opened its season at the Jamestown Golf Course on April 18 with a low net tournament. Under warming weather conditions, the membership battled ultra quick greens and winter rust. The top prize was shared between Beverly Black and Anthony Candelmo who shot net 34 followed closely by Mike Montoya with a 35 to close out the prize money.

The Island Garden
      Most gardeners are tempted to plant everything out already, but it's only the middle of April and we can still get a killing frost. Nighttime temperatures are staying just above or around freezing, so don't plant out yet. I know, I know, most of the gardeners out there can't wait to get things planted.

Summer athletic camps keep kids active
      North Kingstown High School has announced its summer sports camp schedule. Soccer camp, for ages 6 to 14, will be held June 29 to July 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. The camp will offer individual instruction on fundamentals and individual and group instruction in all phases and positions. The cost is $100 and includes a camp T-shirt.

Help needed to get fields in playable condition
      Parents, coaches and community members can help get the Jamestown baseball league's fields ready for the season at the annual Field Clean Up Day. The clean up will take place this Sunday, April 26, starting at 9 a.m. Volunteers are asked to bring shovels, rakes, measuring tapes over 60 feet, and rotary tillers.

North baseball team has their eyes on state title
      When asked about the possibility of winning the Division I baseball state title, North Kingstown High School Head Coach Kevin Gormley plays it cool. "I would say it is a possibility. We have always had strong teams here. I have been here for the last 12 years and we have made it to the finals four times. We have not made it over the hump yet.

      We are nearly ready to take the 2009 Jamestown Telephone Directory to the printer. All advertisements must be at the Jamestown Press office by the end of the day on Friday, April 24 (that's tomorrow!). The telephone directory is published annually as a fund-raiser by the Junior Women's Club of Jamestown.

      Celebrate spring at Watson Farm's annual Sheep Shearing Day on Saturday, May 9, from noon to 4 p.m. Historic New England invites the public to this special preseason open farm day at Watson Farm. It is a great opportunity to watch sheep being shorn, meet the baby lambs and see baby chicks.
