Golf course holds first tourney of season
The Jamestown Golf Club opened its season at the Jamestown Golf Course on April 18 with a low net tournament.
Under warming weather conditions, the membership battled ultra quick greens and winter rust. The top prize was shared between Beverly Black and Anthony Candelmo who shot net 34 followed closely by Mike Montoya with a 35 to close out the prize money.
Outstanding golf was also displayed by Wayne Gifford who shot a one over par gross 37 and Mike Pedro who followed with a 38.
A symbolic bunch of fading spring blossoms was presented to the two golfers with the highest net scores, Dick "Slick" Davis and Kevin Carty.
A short meeting followed the tournament with President Chip Young and Tournament Director Kevin Carty discussing with the membership suggested changes in the Club Champion tournament and the need to enter Rhode Island Golf Association tournaments as soon as possible to avoid being placed on a waiting list.
The club is a member of the RIGA, which sponsors numerous tournaments for all ages and levels of play throughout the year. It is not too late to join. Information and enrollment forms are available at Jamestown Golf Course. The next tournament is the Member Classic on Saturday, May 16, which is a two person team format using a combination of foursome and individual golf.
