Yacht replica next up in sailing series
Yachting enthusiasts can join the Friends of the Jamestown Library on Thursday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. for an informative and entertaining evening about the building of the 6-Metre "Cherokee" with Tom Daniels of the Museum of Yachting.
As part of their exhibit on the history of the yacht design firm of Sparkman & Stephens, the museum announced the building of a new Cherokee. The yacht is being built from plans provided by Sparkman & Stephens and will be launched in time to compete in the 6-Metre World Cup, also being held in Newport. Construction management is courtesy of Boothbay Harbor Shipyard of Maine.
Tom Daniels, a graduate of the International Yacht Restoration School, is one of the shipwrights on the Cherokee project and writes a blog on the progress of the project.
The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the library at 423-7280.
