Support town that supports the arts

The Conanicut Island Art Association exhibit currently on view at Town Hall is based on the theme "Anywhere but Here."

Please drop by and see more than 50 art works featuring other places near and far. Yet, how lucky we are to live right here in Jamestown!

At a time when we are reading that the state of Rhode Island wants to cut its mandated 1 percent funding of art in construction projects by some percentage, if not entirely, we live in a town that throws its full support behind the arts.

When our beautiful new Town Hall was ready to open, the idea was conceived to offer its light and airy spaces as a showcase for the more than 170 artists who live and work in Jamestown.

With enthusiastic backing by Town Administrator Bruce Keiser, Karen Krider grabbed the reins and made it happen. Don Miller and Wendy Crooks took over and have put unlimited energy and ideas into the effort; and the results are impressive, with a brand-new showing on view every two months. Each exhibit is opened with a reception, featuring fine food, a cash bar, and the chance to meet the artists and other interesting folks.

All that is needed is you! Drop by the Town Hall during business hours, or watch the Press for the invitation and come to the openings and be amazed at the talent in Jamestown.

Submit your work for exhibit. Every resident of Jamestown is eligible to become a member of CIAA and show at Town Hall.
